Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. They put in approximately 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to traditional medical school and in fact various podiatry programmes are located inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained extensive health care training with a stress on problems concerning the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat difficulties extending from simple conditions for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more obscure for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical education which provide them the skill essential to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are best handled through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities facilitates a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and protect against many issues which the feet usually encounter.
