Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists invest about 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in reality many podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have gained extensive medical instruction with an attention to on difficulties concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are qualified to care for conditions ranging from basic afflictions like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which give them the experience necessary to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally handled through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities permits a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and avoid countless conditions which the feet regularly experience.
