Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest around a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact a number of podiatry training programs lie within these schools. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained significant medical instruction with a stress on concerns involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to handle problems extending from standard problems such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more perplexing for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have significant surgical training which provide them the expertise necessary to perform surgery on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and defend against many conditions which the feet frequently encounter.
