Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Health professionals here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors invest an average of ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programs are contained within these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired encompassing medical training with an emphasis on problems concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to handle complications ranging from standard problems such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are a lot more obscure for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical training which furnish them the skill needed to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are best handled through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities permits a Podiatric physician to create footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and reduce the chances of a large number of complications which the feet routinely encounter.
