Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired wide-ranging health care instruction with a concentration on problems involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to treat issues ranging from commonplace problems like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more perplexing like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical training which provide them the practical experience necessary to execute surgery on those issues that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors additionally have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems facilitates a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and help prevent numerous issues which the feet regularly experience.
