Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in reality various podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received thorough health care instruction with an attention to on concerns regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are skilled to handle problems ranging from conventional ailments such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more complicated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical education which give them the prior experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those concerns that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems permits a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against countless complications which the feet normally encounter.
