Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest an average of 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in point of fact quite a number podiatry programmes are contained inside these schools. Upon procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained substantial health care training with a concentration on difficulties pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to address conditions varying from normal afflictions for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more complex for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which give them the expertise required to perform surgery on those conditions that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it easy for a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and protect against many conditions which the feet regularly encounter.
