Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend an average of a decade in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in point of fact various podiatry programmes are located within these schools. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have gained considerable health care instruction with an emphasis on difficulties pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are educated to treat complications extending from simple problems like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more complex for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have significant surgical instruction which provide them the prior experience required to perform surgery on those troubles that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors additionally have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait deviations empowers a Foot doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and minimize the risk of many issues which the feet typically encounter.
