Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists invest around 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and many podiatry programmes are contained inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have gained substantial health care training with a focus on conditions pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are taught to handle problems ranging from commonplace ailments for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more complex such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical training which supply them the experience needed to conduct surgery on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Foot doctor to develop footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and protect against many problems which the feet normally encounter.
