Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend approximately 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles usual medical school and in point of fact many podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have acquired wide-ranging health care training with an emphasis on issues pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are studied to handle problems extending from regular disorders for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which give them the skill crucial to execute surgical treatment on those troubles that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and help prevent many problems which the feet commonly encounter.
