Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They devote an average of ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in point of fact several podiatry training programs are contained within these academic institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained extensive healthcare training with an emphasis on concerns involving the feet and ankles. They are studied to treat issues ranging from regular afflictions for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more sophisticated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical training which provide them the experience required to carry out surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors likewise have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and help prevent many troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
