Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists devote an average of a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and several podiatry training programs are located inside these institutions. Upon attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received considerable healthcare training with a focus on conditions involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are skilled to address problems extending from basic problems for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical training which provide them the skill necessary to execute surgery on those complications that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and defend against many troubles which the feet routinely experience.
