Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors put in around 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in point of fact several podiatry training programs lie inside these institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained considerable healthcare training with an importance on complications involving the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to deal with conditions ranging from conventional ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical training which provide them the experience required to execute surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it possible for a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and reduce the chances of a large number of conditions which the feet regularly encounter.
