Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They spend about ten years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and in point of fact several podiatry training programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired wide-ranging medical training with a main focus on issues regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are taught to address conditions stretching from standard ailments for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more puzzling like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical instruction which give them the experience essential to perform surgery on those conditions that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems makes it easy for a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and prevent many troubles which the feet routinely encounter.
