Specialists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest about 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in point of fact many podiatry programs are located within these academic institutions. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have gained encompassing health care training with a concentration on concerns involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to manage difficulties extending from basic disorders like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have thorough surgical education which furnish them the practical experience essential to perform surgical treatment on those complications that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors additionally have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait problems permits a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and help prevent a large number of complications which the feet commonly encounter.
