Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors invest an average of 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and several podiatry programs are located within these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received encompassing medical instruction with a concentration on complications concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are skilled to handle difficulties stretching from common disorders for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical training which provide them the expertise necessary to carry out surgery on those troubles that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to develop shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and avoid a large number of complications which the feet typically experience.
