Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired encompassing healthcare training with a focus on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are educated to care for difficulties ranging from conventional afflictions for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more complex such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical education which provide them the experience vital to conduct surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities empowers a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and help prevent many conditions which the feet frequently encounter.
