Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists devote an average of a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programs lie within these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained thorough medical training with an emphasis on difficulties pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to address complications ranging from basic ailments for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more puzzling like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical training which give them the experience needed to conduct surgical treatment on those issues that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors furthermore have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait problems permits a Foot doctor to create shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and prevent numerous conditions which the feet commonly experience.
