Medical professionals here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to regular medical school and many podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have gained significant medical training with an importance on complications concerning the ankles and feet. They are skilled to deal with problems ranging from simple problems like ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more perplexing including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical training which provide them the prior experience essential to execute surgery on those conditions that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors additionally have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait problems facilitates a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and help prevent many issues which the feet usually encounter.
