Doctors at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists devote about 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and actually quite a number podiatry programs are located within these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 - 3 years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained comprehensive health care education with an importance on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat problems ranging from general ailments like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical instruction which provide them the practical experience necessary to conduct surgery on those conditions that are ideally managed through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities empowers a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and defend against numerous problems which the feet regularly encounter.
