Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists spend about 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles regular medical school and many podiatry programs are located within these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received significant medical training with an importance on conditions involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are skilled to handle issues stretching from general ailments for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more intricate for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical instruction which supply them the practical experience crucial to conduct surgical treatment on those troubles that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait irregularities permits a Podiatric physician to develop shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and prevent many problems which the feet commonly experience.
