Physicians at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote approximately ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles typical medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry programmes are located inside these schools. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received extensive health care education with an importance on issues involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to handle problems ranging from familiar afflictions for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical training which provide them the expertise essential to carry out surgical treatment on those issues that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities permits a Podiatric doctor to develop footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and protect against many troubles which the feet usually encounter.
