Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest about 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to general medical school and in reality many podiatry training programs are contained within these institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained extensive health care education with a concentration on complications pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are qualified to address complications varying from normal problems like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical instruction which supply them the skill crucial to carry out surgical treatment on those concerns that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait problems makes it easy for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and defend against a large number of conditions which the feet commonly encounter.
