Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They devote approximately a decade in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles general medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes lie inside these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have gained significant health care training with an emphasis on difficulties concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to deal with problems extending from typical disorders for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical education which give them the practical experience needed to perform surgery on those complications that are best managed through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Foot doctor to develop footwear and orthotics that can give pain relief and reduce the chances of numerous issues which the feet generally experience.
