Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists invest an average of 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in point of fact several podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have gained comprehensive medical training with a main focus on problems involving the ankles and feet. They are trained to care for issues varying from familiar disorders for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical education which give them the experience crucial to perform surgical treatment on those concerns that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and prevent many problems which the feet commonly experience.
