Grande Prairie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They put in around 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received wide-ranging medical training with an emphasis on complications involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are taught to handle difficulties varying from typical ailments for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are more complicated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical training which provide them the experience crucial to carry out surgical treatment on those issues that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems enables a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and protect against many troubles which the feet typically encounter.
