Health professionals here at The Foot Institute – Camrose provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in around a decade in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact many podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. Upon getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received comprehensive medical training with a concentration on conditions involving the ankles and feet. They are trained to treat problems stretching from typical disorders such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical education which furnish them the expertise necessary to execute surgical treatment on those troubles that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and help prevent a large number of problems which the feet typically encounter.
