Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Camrose provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors spend approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to typical medical school and various podiatry training programs lie within these institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive health care training with a concentration on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are instructed to treat problems extending from normal afflictions such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more sophisticated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical education which provide them the experience necessary to perform surgery on those troubles that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities facilitates a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and reduce the chances of a large number of complications which the feet commonly encounter.
