Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Camrose provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They put in approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programs are located inside these schools. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have acquired comprehensive health care education with an importance on complications pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are taught to care for problems varying from common ailments for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more challenging for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical training which provide them the skill necessary to execute surgical treatment on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems makes it possible for a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and prevent numerous issues which the feet routinely experience.
