Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Camrose provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists devote about 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and actually several podiatry training programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received extensive healthcare training with a concentration on difficulties involving the ankles and feet. They are instructed to manage problems ranging from commonplace conditions such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more complicated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical instruction which furnish them the practical experience necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those complications that are ideally managed through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors additionally have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities permits a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and protect against many complications which the feet typically encounter.
