Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend an average of 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in reality numerous podiatry programs are located within these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received extensive medical training with a main focus on problems regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to treat issues ranging from typical ailments such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more sophisticated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which furnish them the skill essential to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities empowers a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and minimize the risk of countless conditions which the feet routinely encounter.
