Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They spend an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry training programs are contained inside these schools. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have received thorough health care instruction with a concentration on conditions involving the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are skilled to deal with conditions ranging from conventional disorders for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more intricate for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical training which give them the practical experience necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those concerns that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics that can give pain relief and protect against countless conditions which the feet normally experience.
