Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to typical medical school and as a matter of fact numerous podiatry programmes are located inside these schools. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired comprehensive medical training with an emphasis on difficulties regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to handle issues ranging from typical ailments such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more complex such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical education which supply them the expertise required to perform surgical treatment on those complications that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors likewise have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait irregularities facilitates a Foot doctor to develop footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and defend against countless problems which the feet regularly encounter.
