Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They spend around 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and as a matter of fact a number of podiatry training programs lie inside these academic institutions. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received extensive healthcare education with an emphasis on issues pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are educated to care for problems varying from conventional ailments like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more puzzling such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which provide them the prior experience necessary to execute surgery on those conditions that are best remedied through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems enables a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and reduce the chances of countless conditions which the feet typically encounter.
