Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in reality several podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical training with a focus on conditions involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are skilled to treat complications ranging from commonplace problems for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more challenging such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical training which give them the skill necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those issues that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors additionally have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait problems makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and defend against numerous problems which the feet usually encounter.
