Physicians at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend around 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles usual medical school and in point of fact several podiatry training programs are contained inside these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained encompassing medical training with a focus on problems involving the ankles and feet. They are trained to deal with complications extending from conventional problems such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more puzzling like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have thorough surgical education which provide them the experience required to execute surgery on those complications that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and help prevent numerous issues which the feet typically encounter.
