Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors invest approximately 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles general medical school and in point of fact many podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained comprehensive health care education with a stress on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to care for concerns stretching from normal afflictions such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more intricate for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical instruction which provide them the expertise needed to perform surgery on those concerns that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and avoid a large number of complications which the feet routinely encounter.
