Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists devote an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and many podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. Upon procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have obtained comprehensive medical instruction with a focus on problems involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are skilled to deal with difficulties extending from common disorders for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more perplexing for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical instruction which provide them the experience needed to carry out surgical treatment on those troubles that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors additionally have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities enables a Podiatric physician to create footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and minimize the risk of many problems which the feet typically experience.
