Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors devote approximately ten years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in reality numerous podiatry training programs are contained within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired significant medical training with an emphasis on conditions concerning the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are skilled to deal with problems extending from basic afflictions for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more complicated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical education which furnish them the experience necessary to carry out surgery on those problems that are best handled through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems makes it easy for a Foot doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and prevent a large number of issues which the feet regularly encounter.
