Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend an average of a decade in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in fact many podiatry programs are located within these academic institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have received wide-ranging health care training with an importance on complications concerning the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are skilled to deal with issues extending from general ailments such as ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are more perplexing like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical training which give them the practical experience necessary to execute surgery on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and reduce the chances of many problems which the feet typically encounter.
