Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. They put in around 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are located within these academic institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have acquired extensive medical instruction with an importance on problems involving the ankles and feet. They are qualified to care for conditions ranging from typical disorders for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more complicated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical training which provide them the skill necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatric physician to develop footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and reduce the chances of a large number of conditions which the feet routinely encounter.
