Grande Prairie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend approximately a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and actually several podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical training with an importance on problems concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are studied to manage complications stretching from standard disorders like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more complicated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have thorough surgical training which give them the expertise necessary to carry out surgery on those conditions that are ideally handled through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait deviations facilitates a Podiatric doctor to develop footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
