Specialists at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors devote approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and actually several podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 - 3 years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received wide-ranging medical training with an attention to on conditions pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to treat problems ranging from familiar ailments such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more challenging for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical training which give them the expertise needed to carry out surgical treatment on those concerns that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet go through as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities empowers a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics that can offer pain relief and protect against countless conditions which the feet regularly encounter.
