Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend an average of ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to traditional medical school and actually several podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. Upon acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received comprehensive medical education with a stress on problems concerning the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to treat concerns varying from usual conditions for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which give them the expertise necessary to execute surgical treatment on those complications that are best managed through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Recognizing biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it easy for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and defend against numerous conditions which the feet regularly experience.
