Grande Prairie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists devote an average of ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and actually various podiatry programmes lie within these institutions. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received wide-ranging medical training with a main focus on complications involving the ankles and feet. They are educated to address problems varying from typical ailments such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which supply them the expertise essential to perform surgery on those problems that are best managed through surgical treatment.

Foot Institute Doctors additionally have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Comprehending biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it easy for a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and prevent many conditions which the feet routinely encounter.
