Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Doctors spend about ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact numerous podiatry programs are located within these schools. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received extensive medical training with a concentration on concerns regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are studied to deal with complications ranging from conventional problems for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more complicated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical instruction which give them the practical experience necessary to perform surgery on those problems that are ideally handled through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatrist to create footwear and orthotics that can provide pain relief and prevent many problems which the feet typically experience.
