Grande Prairie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors spend about 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and a number of podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.

At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have obtained wide-ranging health care education with a focus on difficulties regarding the feet and ankles. They are taught to treat conditions varying from general problems for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more complicated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical education which give them the practical experience necessary to perform surgery on those conditions that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute likewise have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatric physician to develop footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and avoid a large number of problems which the feet usually experience.
