Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and a number of podiatry training programs lie within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained significant medical training with an importance on issues regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to care for difficulties ranging from general conditions for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more complex including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which furnish them the practical experience crucial to perform surgical treatment on those conditions that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Realizing biomechanics and gait problems permits a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and prevent numerous complications which the feet typically experience.
