Specialists here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors put in about ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to usual medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are located inside these schools. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have acquired comprehensive medical training with a focus on conditions pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are qualified to address problems ranging from typical disorders like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical training which supply them the skill vital to perform surgical treatment on those issues that are best handled through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait abnormalities permits a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and avoid numerous complications which the feet normally encounter.
