Grande Prairie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors spend an average of ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in fact a number of podiatry programmes lie inside these academic institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.

At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have obtained encompassing medical training with a main focus on difficulties concerning the ankles and feet. They are qualified to address concerns extending from general afflictions such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more sophisticated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have substantial surgical instruction which provide them the prior experience necessary to carry out surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and defend against many complications which the feet commonly encounter.
